Atlas Composites took another significant step towards Supply Chain 21st Century (SC21) recognition when it played host to the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA) review meeting, 24th August 2011, at its 25,000 square ft production facility in Ilkeston.

Welcomed by Atlas Composites MD Shaun Moloney, the meeting was attended by representatives form Chemring Defence UK, CVI Laser, Paul Fabrications and SL Engineering who collaboratively make up the SC21 East Midlands Cluster Group in conjunction with the MAA and TPT Consultancy.

The SC21 review meeting represents an 18 month journey beginning with an initial pre positioning review, something which Midlands Aerospace Alliance SC21 Manager Tim Holmes reflects on with great pride.

“The East Midlands Cluster Group, despite its diverse members and regional status, can be proud of achieving national recognition for its collaborative work ethic.”

“The common denominator with all group members is their willingness to openly summarise progress and share best practice experiences, a concept which has also coincided with a significant period of growth for all cluster group members.”

In deploying SC21 principles Atlas Composites have already added significant value. A reduction in the duplication of processes and need to support customer audits has seen an improvement in supply chain performance. A fact which Quality Systems Manager John Davie was quick to recognize.

“Our experience of AS9100 REV C change will enable us to make great strides with our SC21 programme through shared working practices and KPI’s. “

“A growing number of customers and suppliers recognise the benefits of achieving an SC21 benchmark. The combination of AS9100 REV C, which we’ve recently been awarded and SC21 bronze, which we are hoping to achieve by November, will provide the perfect platform to position Atlas Composites as a trusted high performance composites partner.”
